Triggers & Sparks is a freelance design studio based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. I work alone, but I have a great network of talented people I rely on to help me out if I don’t excel at something, so I can be a full-service provider without the overhead or red tape of a bigger studio. It’s my aim to be a one-stop-shop; anything you need, I can provide for you.
Since before 2006, I’ve been working with companies and individuals, big and small, to help realize their potential through quality design. Some of these people have lived next door, others have lived all the way across the world, some as far away as India and Australia.
T&S was borne out of a desire to make the world a more beautiful place—one logo, website, or poster at a time. I believe that good design ought to speak, and it ought to say something about you. My aim is to create exactly what you want, and my portfolio features a wide array of styles for precisely this reason. Good design cannot exist within a vacuum, and the client (that’s you!), is as much a part of the process as the designer.
I love to create, and I’ve always been crazy about art and design. I taught myself to build websites when I was fourteen, and my first summer job was as a website designer for a software company. After a year of philosophy at university and a variety of jobs (including stints as a crossing guard, a knife salesman, a security guard, and a maid—among others) I decided to pursue my love of design as a career. I finished my graphic design diploma at NSCC, then went to work for HB Studios, a video game development studio in Lunenburg, NS.
When my freelance design work began to equal a full time job—on top of my already full-time-and-then-some job—I launched Triggers & Sparks. Since then, I’ve used my creative talents to benefit a diverse and impressive list of clients. As a portfolio reviewed member of the Society of Graphic Designers Canada (GDC), I subscribe to a recognized code of ethics and a rigorous professional standard for all of my work.
